Issue with the vehicle recognition but learnt on the exit it was a Gatwick airport software update issue. The instructions to pull up and visit the office at the exit was confusing given there was no parking and the threat of a ticket but the help button quickly resolved this. But to be honest I did worry about throughout my holiday, expecting it to be a whole lot of hassle

About Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport is in West Sussex and is a hub for easyJet, TUI Airways, Wizz Air UK, British Airways, Titan Airways and Norse Atlantic. It is also a focus for Ryanair and Norwegian Air Shuttle. The busiest routes from Gatwick Airport are typically Barcelona, Dublin, Malaga, Amsterdam, Dubai, Madrid, Orlando, Geneva, Alicante and Copenhagen.
On Gatwick Airport's official website, it’s recommended people give themselves at least two hours before boarding their flight to make sure they have enough time to check in and pass-through security. However, times could vary as you may find that you will get through security quicker and the time recommended is just so you give yourself enough time to make it to your flight.
Terminals
Both north and south terminals are connected by an elevated moving walker on the landside area that only takes 2 minutes and runs 24/7.
Check-in
Checking your ticket or contacting your airline for advice on check-in times is the best way to get a general guide on when you need to get to the airport, however, we recommend that you arrive at least two hours prior to the departure of your flight to allow plenty of time.
The check-in areas at Gatwick Airport are visibly signed within each terminal and you should check the flight information screens at the entrances to the terminal. If you have checked in online and only have hand luggage, you can go directly through security to the departure lounge.
Alternatively, you can use self-service or online check-in. To save time, please make sure you have your passport and boarding pass at hand so you can drop off all your bags and get through security to the departure lounge as soon as possible.
